Big Date

Pixabay

She raids her closet
For a long-awaited date
Night out on the town
With someone incredible
Soon she’ll be en route
To see the Christmas light show
She adorns herself
In her best accessories
Dressed up to the nines
She selects items saved for
Special occasions
Like her favorite gray scarf
Sparkly stilettos
Old Italian charm bracelet
Karl Lagerfeld purse
To calm her nerves she mixes
Her favorite drink
A mug of hot buttered rum
When she sees the cat
Kneading her claws in the scarf
She nearly panics
Carefully smooths the fabric
Then eagerly leaves
Her apartment for a date
With someone special: herself

Cottonbro

Don’t worry, she took an Uber.

A great poem. I love the reality of the cat pawing the scarf and the date with herself! A really great twist.

A little gem of a choka, Sylvia! It’s like a French or Italian short film, very cinematographic. One reason I don’t wear expensive clothes, my cats kneading their claws in them – and covering them with hair!

    1. Thank you Kim 🙂 Hahahaha, that’s one of the reasons I don’t have any cats anymore, even though I love them 🙂
