Hiking Crown Cinquain

Hiking
On Steven’s Trail
Colfax, four miles each way
North Fork American River
Autumn

Colfax
Big attitude
For a small roadside town
The cashier flashes a fake smile
My way

Sunrise
Coyotes howl
Ground my feet to the earth
Nearby squirrels screech from bobcat’s jaws
That’s life

River
Ephemeral
Fierce enough to drown me
Strong, beautiful, and powerful
Currents

Autumn
Red, yellow leaves
Mixed among evergreens
Desolate wilderness singing
I’m home

Hiking
Big attitude
Ground my feet to the earth
Strong, beautiful, and powerful
I’m home

I feel the same way! This form of writing is magical. I’m comfortable as a storyteller but my eyes are being open to wonderful new styles of writing that I’ve never seen before. Quite brilliant!

  8. What a fabulous poem!
I live in a small town in Northeastern Colorado. There is one store. The woman who runs the place doesn’t bother with fake smiles. She always looks like she’s completely done with everything. She’s a nice lady, though.
